I need a hug

I just got home from a trip to Downtown Guelph. First we headed to the Albion, only to find out that Thursdays are the night that gay people generally go there. And since I am in a relationship, and my friend had already had a fair bit to drink, we were at a table minding our own business. We found out later that people were assuming that we were 'together'.

That really isn't what has put me in my current mood. After leaving the Albion, we went to Frank's. While inside, we met up with some other friends and proceeded to stand by ourselves, enjoying our night and letting everybody else enjoy theirs. Apparently this wasn't acceptable behavior. I was approached by a large, Abercrombie and Fitch, wearing guy who began insulting my haircut, calling it either "Lame" or "Gay". It was loud so I couldn't figure out which one. He quickly realized from my response that I wasn't in the mood to start shit for the sake of shit, so he turned to my friend Matt. After some very closely exchanged words, the bouncers came over and escorted our group out. Not because anything had actually erupted, but because the A&F guy had a friend who worked at the bar as a bouncer. This is also why we were kicked out and he and his group were not.
After standing around outside for about 15 minutes, we finally caught sight of mister A&F and began taunting him as he walked by. He gave no response other than a self satisfied-smile.

While I was only involved in one minor almost-scuffle, things do escalate beyond this point on a regular basis. So much so that the Guelph Police Department stations 3 officers when the bars let out, at the intersection where Franks is located. This means that in the University city of Guelph, where our future leaders are supposed to be evolving into mature, cool-headed adults, they regularly need to be monitored by armed, trained officers of the law.

This has always baffled me, starting a fight for no reason other than to fight. If you just want to hit somebody join a fight gym. You can safely punch/kick/tackle/throw somebody who not only is completely consenting, but is most likely your own size. How is this a part of our world? It makes me sad for the future to think that this are the people that will by going on to one day run everything. Not only that, but these "Alpha male's" seem to do pretty well at taking girls home with them at the end of the night. This means that this is the genetic material that will get passed on.

Well this has been another late night, poorly worded ramble. The point is, I feel like the world is a giant pile of shit, and a hug seems like something that would help me remember that there is kindness, and warmth, and all that other shit.
